Since the opening of the US/Canadian border on August 9, 2021 all travelers must complete an on-line Arrive CAN form BEFORE you arrive at the CAN/US border. The required form can be found atthe official Canadian Government’s Arrive CAN website. Be aware that travel agencies are featured in your search for the official government website to expedite the process BUT they will charge you a fee AND usually the process will take longer for approval. No fee is charged through the official Canadian Arrive CAN website.
LAND TRAVEL
Coming Up From the US/Canadian Border?:
TO Hartley Bay Marina
- Starting from the Canadian side of the Peace Bridge at Buffalo, N.Y.:
- Take the QEW Highway to Exit 100 (the 407 East exit is just south of Toronto) (about 60 miles)
- Follow 407 ETR to exit 66 (the 400 North Barrie exit). (about 40 miles)
- Take 400 North toward Sudbury (old Highway 69 North). (about 60 miles)
- Just north of Barry, 400 N will bear to the right and becomes 69 North.
- Proceed on 69 N to Parry Sound. (about 80 miles) Use exit 224 for groceries/supplies, at Sobeys or Walmart and gasoline.
- Continue on 69 N (about 60 miles) to the Hartley Bay/Settlers Rd exit.
- Turn LEFT onto Hartley Bay Road – follow gravel road 9 miles (14.5 km) to the end which will be Hartley Bay Marina
- Valet parking at the Hartley Bay Marina. (For the Marina’s launching and parking fees
TO Smith’s Marina
- Starting from the Canadian side of the Peace Bridge at Buffalo, N.Y.:

- Go straight at the STOP sign to Settler’s Rd
- Turn LEFT onto Pickerel River and Lower French River Rd just before the Pickerel River Bridge.
- Then first right into Smith’s Marina
Coming From The West
- Coming from Sault Ste. Marie, take Hwy. 17 East 298 km (185 miles) to Sudbury, Ontario.
- Take Hwy. 69 South (New 400 South) – 100 km (60 miles) to Hartley Bay Road.
- Just past Bear’s Den Lodge sign, turn RIGHT onto the Hartley Bay Road – follow for 14.5 km (9 miles) to Hartley Bay Marina to valet park and valet boat launch.
- TO Smith’s Marina: Proceed past Hartley Bay Rd and go over the French River and the Pickerel River bridges to the Pickerel River and Lower French River Rd sign. (Right after the Pickerel River Bridge).
- Turn right onto the Pickerel River and Lower French River Rd just after the Pickerel River Bridge.
- Then first right to Smith’s Marina.(100 yards)
Traveler’s Alert
- PLEASE PURCHASE VEHICLE GAS in ESTAIRE or SUDBURY if arriving from the NORTH.
- PURCHASE GAS IN PARRY SOUND, NOBEL, BRITT or POINTE au BARIL when traveling from the SOUTH.
- GAS NOT AVAILABLE in ALBAN or BEYOND AREAS. Listed due to 400 HWY construction.
- Boat gas is available only at the Hartley Bay Marina.
- The French River Provincial Park is uncharted waterways. Hydro Topo Maps are NOT available.
- There may be some delays due to highway construction on 400 N of Toronto.

FLYING to CANADA: Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)
*According to the Government of Canada:
- New entry requirement now in effect: visa-exempt foreign nationals who fly to or transit through Canada need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).
