Trappers On Atwood Island

Trappers is one of ten privately owned cottages on Atwood Island. An 8 acre island paradise located in southern Ontario about 3 hours north of Toronto. It is nestled in the middle of the Lower French River Provincial Park wilderness only accessible by float plane or boat. In addition to its provincial park designation, the French River has the added distinction of being nationally recognized as a Canadian Heritage River. The Canadian River System (CHRS) was established to provide recognition "to the outstanding rivers of Canada to ensure their management in such a way as to protect their heritage values and to provide for their recreational enjoyment by present and future generations of Canada." Atwood Island is an incorporated island owned, operated and maintained by the cottage owners. Some owners rent their cottages offering many creature comforts of home. We are happy to have you as our guests and as owners we are committed to maintaining the pristine environment and unique French River experience now and "for future generations of Canada."

  1. Due to the ever present risk of fire, Atwood Island is a smoke free zone. For safety and health reasons, NO SMOKING in TRAPPERS. Limit smoking to the outdoor decks.
  2. For your safety, let Stephen, our 24/7 on-site island manager, know where you plan to go every day.
  3. The river has many rocks. Stephen can also inform you of the surrounding waters and some of the hazard areas to be aware of.
  4. Driving under the influence of alcohol is illegal on the river.
  5. Try to keep noise to a minimum on the island especially after 9:00 pm as many are trying to relax and enjoy the peace.
  6. Accidents happen. Let Stephen know if you have one.
  7. Please treat Trappers as if you owned it.

Our island is truly magical but it will only stay that way if you respect her dignity. For those who appreciate her a return invitation is always extended.

My wife, sister and her husband spent the week there. Very comfortable, with all the amenities of a home, but with a great view! Close to the docks and very quiet. The fishing is very good and there are boats to rent. Highly recommend it.
